We’ve all seen at least one movie scene of an incredible college party, and for a lot of us, it was one of the most exciting things to look forward to before starting freshman year. And I won’t lie and act like I haven’t made some of my favorite memories at a college party (I once found some light sabers in a corner and battled out with a friend), but parties can also be so, so exhausting. If you aren’t feeling a sweaty, dark, crowded, alcohol-infused weekend, here are some things you can do instead.
Have a movie night
Get a group of friends together and login to someone’s Netflix for a night of movies or TV binging. Also, you didn’t hear it from me, but the entirety of MyScene Jammin’ in Jamaica is on YouTube. If you haven’t seen it, it’s required watching for this site.
Go explore a new part of your city
Is there a new museum or a place you haven’t visited yet? Go check it off your list! Even if you go to school in a smaller town, there are always cute and charming places to hang out. Don’t forget to take pictures, so you can stunt on Instagram later (lol).
Go to dinner
If there’s anything I like more than a night of partying (there are a lot of things actually), it’s food. Try out a new restaurant, order in, or cook dinner together with your friends. It’s the perfect time to build relationships with winning conversation, and you’ll fill your tummy, too. Two birds, ya feel?
Warning: if you lack self control, skip this one. If you can handle a budget, then you should totally go to your favorite stores and pick some new wardrobe favorites. If spending money is not in the cards for you, window shopping and trying on cute outfits is fun, too. Okay, it’s not as fun, but you can still have a great time with pals.
If you’re extra and you know it, clap your hands! This one is for y’all. Get done up with your friends and go to a cool location and model for each other. It’s so much fun to dress up and be with friends, and you’ll have cool pictures when you’re finished.
Throw a game night
When you hear “game night,” you may think of old church ladies playing bingo, but a competitive game of Uno with your circle could be the epic event your weekend needs. However, if you get heated, you might want to sit this one out. I still have never played a game with my friends because I’d like to still have friends for a little while longer.
There you go! Six things for you do to instead of partying. Remember, everything is good in moderation, so keep your favorite weekend activities in rotation. There’s nothing wrong with partying, but do it safely and without pressure.
