Valentine’s Day is an occasion centered around love and relationships, whether they be romantic, platonic, or familial. One of the most important relationships you can have is the one you have with yourself, so why shouldn’t you celebrate that on Valentine’s Day, as well? Whether you’re in a romantic relationship or not, you’ll find tips on how to be your own Valentine in today’s post.
How to be Your Own Valentine
Gifting is probably the first option you think of for Valentine’s Day, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a good option. The trick to giving a good gift is finding something that the recipient would love but maybe wouldn’t have purchased for themselves. It’s no different with yourself! I love having my nails done, but it isn’t something I do often because I always think of other places $35 could go. That makes it a great Valentine’s Day gift. What would you love to recieve from a friend or other loved one? If you have an idea, get it for yourself.
Complete a Task
If monetary items aren’t the way to your heart, maybe service is. Are there any tasks on your to-do list that you never get around to? Take time to complete them for yourself. Future you will certainly appreciate it. Now’s the time to finally organize your closet or hang the artwork you bought three months ago. Do something for yourself this V-Day.
Spend time with yourself
Maybe you really don’t need all the fuss of gifts or really don’t have time to worry about your dusty to-do list. In that case, simply spending time with yourself is a great way to celebrate you for Valentine’s Day. Watch your favorite movie, make a fancy dinner, or take a walk in your favorite park. The possibilities for this one are truly endless. For myself, I see a Steven Universe marathon with McDonald’s in my lap for the future. Who’s with me?
In other words…
Hopefully, your Valentine’s Day centers around yourself as much as it centers around others. In 2018, we’re practicing self-love everyday of the week. Whatever you decide to do for yourself this Valentine’s Day, I want to know! Leave a comment on this post with your ideas, and DM me pictures on Instagram (@mayanfleming) of your Valentine’s Day festivities. As always, talk soon!
